Vidock Vendredi

Vidock: Studly Neighs, EveryFriend! I mentioned last Monday that I was embarking on a new adventure so I thought I would update you. First of all, don't worry (as someone did!), I am not going anywhere. I am staying right here in my lovely field and the goodness is coming to me! You see, #1 was talking to Uncle E and he said that, now that I am six, and getting to be mature in both mind and body, it would be good for me to try my hoof at new things. Remember the very nice gentleman who was working with Violette back in the spring (she is on hiatus because of that limping issue)? Well, he is a specialist in something called "Doma Vaquera" which is apparently what all the western riding skills (cowboy skills!) go back to. In many ways, it is not too dissimilar to dressage and if you are really interested, you can get an idea of what it looks like here.

Soooooo... on Wednesday, Mr. JPD saddled me up and off we went together to the sand arena, first on foot:

He started by explaining to me what we were going to be doing:

Then we worked a little bit on foot:

After which he got on my back:

He said it was an excellent start! As far as we know, nobody has ever tried Doma Vaquera on a Percheron before. They normally use Lusitanian horses. But I am very excited, as is #1, and I know I am going to be learning a lot with the help of a great teacher.

My next lesson is today!

  9. Vidock it's always good to teach a new horse an old trick! :) You are becoming quite the handsome boy as your white coat pushes through your dappled gray areas. :)

  10. Oh Vidock! That is so furry cool! When Mommy worked on a Ranch in the Alberta Foothills when she was much younger, one of the best horses for working with the cattle was 3/4 Percheron. His name was Smokey and he was quite a character. Mes sure yous will excel at "Doma Vaquera"!

Tu as de chance, ta #1 pense autrement.
Il faut tenir en éveil votre curiosité naturelle.
